| TOUCHING THE SOUTH COAST FOR GOD - Romans
14:17-19
6 yrs ago when Kel and I moved back to San Diego to
start a church, we had a vision to reach our friends
in the South Coastal area. In fact, we wrote it into
the mission statement of our church.
I wouldve never guessed that 4 1/2 yrs. into
it there would be two new churches practically a stones
throw from ours doing similar things. When I first
heard of SouthCoast Community...I immediately called
Steve.
Told him about our office complex, invited him to the
ministers fellowship
. Weve been friends
ever since, surfed together
.leading up to today
.and
eventually our surf contest.
Ive known from that start that the way we reach
people for Christ is through our combined efforts
as churches. Its not about individual church
growth, its about Gods kingdom growth.
We talked about Gods kingdom in church last
week... its anything that has to do with God,
things he would be pleased with. I think God is pleased
with this combined service today
.
So, what does Gods kingdom look like in a flesh
and blood, tangible way? Its what you
see right before you, its Gods people
living in a godly way.
Specifically, its what Romans 14 talks about
.
Rom. 14 talks about how we should be relating to each
other
This chapter encourages us not to judge each other,
and not to hinder each other with petty differences
such as what kind of food you eat or dont
.
vs. 17-19
What is really important?
Righteousness, peace and joy. IN THE HOLY SPIRIT!
IOW, we dont really have the capacity to
act on these three without the HS.
As Christians, even if were just hitting
two of these three
. even just righteousness.
Can we make it our goal to live righteous in every
area?
vs. 18... By acting on these three we are not only
attractive to others, but more importantly we
please God.
What should we be trying the hardest to do? (vs. 19)
Peace and mutual edification. Examples please
.
Just like I mentioned at the start, these are the kinds
of things that make it obvious we are kingdom people,
not selfish church growth experts...
