Coastlands Church | News & Events

The purpose of Coastlands Church is: To make disciples of Jesus Christ.

Specifically, our mission is to do that in the central San Diego area/beach communities.
This purpose comes from Matthew 28:18-20 where Jesus says to go and makes disciples.
This happens as we love God and love people (from Matthew 22:37-39).

Well, here we are stuck in a classic "May gray" day. Now you know why we canceled our May beach services. It's kinda weird going from the summer-like heat in April to wearing a jacket in May. Still though, we've got nothing to complain about weather-wise here in San Diego.

We are now settling into the new school at Bayview Terrace. The month of special events has passed and I hope you are all getting used to the new auditorium. We played around with the lighting a little bit last Sunday, but would love to hear your suggestions as to how we can still make it work best. I look forward to seeing you all at church this Sunday as we continue in our study of 1 Timothy.

Next Steps:

If you are new to Coastlands and are wondering what the next steps should be for you, here are some options.

You can attend the monthly pastor's lunch on the third Sunday of each month. These lunches are held at Pastor Evan's house (6506 Mt. Ackerman Dr., 92111). These lunches provide a chance to meet others and learn more about the purpose/vision and mission of our church. The next one will be May 18 th . Please RSVP to 858-277-5903.

Every few months we offer a class that is for new Christians to help them become better rooted and grounded in their faith. If you are interested, please let us know. This class will be offered on Saturday mornings in the church office at 9:30am. In this class we will help people move from curious about the Christian life to fully committed. The next class will start on June 14th. Please RSVP to 858-274-9079.

Attend one of our home fellowships listed below.

MEN'S MINISTRY/RETREAT…

We will be planning our next retreat soon, once we pick a date that works best for all.

WOMEN'S MINISTRY…

Hi Ladies,

We had the pleasure of meeting Sylvana Corlett at the Beth Moore Conference. She has just informed me of an event at her church - The Rock Women's Annual Tea, scheduled for Saturday, May 31st 2 - 4PM at the Rock Church. If you are interested in attending, you can go to their website @ www.therocksandiego.org/eventcalendar/3550/

The tickets are $15/person. If you'd like to attend and like to carpool, we can meet at my house. Please let me know if you'd like a ride.

For May, we will meet at Rancherita in La Jolla, 7704 La Jolla Blvd., La Jolla, CA 92037, 858-459-5877, Thursday, 5/22 @ 7:00PM

For June, we will meet at Extraordinary Desserts, 1430 Union Street, San Diego, CA 92101 (Little Italy), 619-294-7001, Thursday, 6/26 @ 7:00PM

We have 3 volunteers for potlucks: Connie Kaplan, Rebekah Almond, Kelley Lauer

Ladies, please let me know which month works for you, July, August or September! I think the summer months would be great for potlucks.

Rebekah Almond has volunteered to lead the Beth Moore Bible Study.

She has access to 2 of the studies:

Believing God

Breaking Free

Based on the responses, it appears Wednesdays are the best evening.

Please let me know:

1. Which one of the studies you would like to begin.

2. What time works best on Wednesday nights. (6:30 or 7:00 PM)

3. We can meet at the church office or a people's homes (we can

rotate the homes) or my house is available (Ocean Beach).

4. When we are ready to begin, May or June.

5. We will be purchasing the cost of the workbooks. $ amt. to be

determined.

Also, I am looking for someone to replace me as the Women's Ministry Coordinator. Please let Evan know if you would be interested in this position.

Thank you.

MISSIONS OPPORTUNITY…

Hello Friends at Coastlands Church

My name is Jenna Lee Capuzzi, I don't know if you remember me or not but this past summer I was in San Diego with Campus Crusade for Christ on a summer project. While I was in San Diego I had the previlage of going to your chruch. Over the past school year the Lord has been teaching me so much, it has been amazing.

This summer I have been given the previlage to go into another part of the world. I have been accepted to go on a summer project in Montpellier, France. Currently I am in the process of raising support to go, I have to raise about $4600 and am trusting the Lord to bring it all in. Already the Lord has been providing in huge ways, to date I am at $660, but I still have a ways to go. I have attached my support letter and would love if you would be willing to join my support team either financially or prayerfully. It would also be helpful if you could pass this letter onto other members of your church.

Please feel free to contact me with any further questions. (email jenna.capuzzi@mnsu.edu , phone 507-272-1567)

Thank you,

Jenna Lee Capuzzi

CHURCH SOFTBALL LEAGUE…

Any men interested in playing softball on Monday nights, please contact Ty Smith at 619-606-6644. This is for a church league that plays at North Clairemont rec center on Monday nights. The first game is scheduled for Monday April 21st. The season runs until August 18th. If you can't make it to all the games, that is ok. It'd be great to have you for at least some of the games.

WAYS TO CONNECT BETTER AT COASTLANDS…
One of our desires for everyone at our church is that they feel connected to other people. Some of you may be able to attend one of our home fellowships. Others may get involved with one of our service teams. Some of you may just want to come to a social event, hang out and get to know others better. We’d like to give you that opportunity at least twice a month. We’d like to invite everyone over to Chipotle’s at 1504 Garnet Avenue on the second and fourth Sundays of the month. If you would like to come, we can meet there right after church, say 12pm at the latest. This can be a fun, easy way to get to know people better at our church.

Prayer Requests

From Julie Lightner…

Would you please pray for Adam Harris. He is the 26 year old son of my boss. Adam complained with stomach ache and a sense of tiredness. when they took a blood test, they discovered that his white blood cells were elevated, which could alert the doctors to infection or possible blood disease. They discovered a large abscess in his abdominal area and have drained that and have him in the hospital on antibiotics.

This is quite dangerous, since no one knows how he contracted this, what it is and how else to treat it other than antibiotics for infection. Often people die from such a thing!

I asked if it would be OK to put him on our generous prayer list, they are Jewish, but welcomed the offer.

I'll let you know when I hear more.

Thanks,

Julie

PS: If you could also pray for my brothers and sisters, that would be great. My mom died on Thursday, April 10th ... we were all surprised.

From Mikey,

I have a friend with a little boy named Cole who is here at Children's Hospital in San Diego. I am writing to everyone I know that would be willing to pray for him. He had surgery to re-do the wiring from his kidneys to his bladder. There have been complications related to the surgery and he is in intense pain. They have him on Morphine, it's so bad. His dad told me it got so bad that he couldn't recognize his mother and he was saying weird things and hallucinating. He was just in so much pain. Please pray for the doctors to have great discernment and knowledge. Also for his pain to subside and for him to make a really amazing recovery. I feel really bad for his mom and dad. Please lift them up as well. Her name is Melanie and his name is Harold.

Please also continue to pray for Miranda Klassen as she is home now and recovering.

Mary J. Iorio--prayer request-Long life and strength. God's favor in my life.

Pray for Angela as she deals with a co-worker and helping him be more responsible. Also pray for her dad who has cancer.

Please continue to pray for Joel Vestal and the ministry of Servlife. Please also be praying for David and Shinko Levey in Japan with Christian Surfers and the ministry of Mission One Million. When you get a chance, please visit their website for updates to know specifically what to pray for. ( www.servlife.org) , (www.mission1m.org) ,  (www.christian-surfers-japan.com) .

IF YOU HAVE ANY PRAYER REQUESTS THAT YOU WOULD LIKE POSTED, PLEASE LET US KNOW!

Quote Of The Week

Auntie Em: Hate you, hate Kansas, taking the dog. Dorothy.

Prayer Of The Week

Do thou, O God, bless unto me
Each thing mine eye doth see;
Do thou, O God, bless unto me
Each sound that comes to me;
Do thou, O God, bless unto me
Each savour that I smell;
Do thou, O God, bless unto me
Each taste in mouth doth dwell;
Each sound that goes unto my song,
Each ray that guides my way,
Each thing that I pursue along,
Each lure that tempts to stray,
The zeal that seeks my living soul,
The Three that seek my heart and whole,
The zeal that seeks my living soul,
The Three that seek my heart and whole.

From the Gaelic - G R D McLean
